Google adds clearer disclosure for ads created or edited with generative AI

Google is adding a 'How this ad was made' disclosure across Search, YouTube and Discover.

Google is expanding AI transparency across its advertising products with a new 'How this ad was made' section in My Ad Center.

Ads generated with Google's own AI tools can be disclosed automatically, while advertisers are also being given controls to indicate when generative AI was used elsewhere.

The direction is important for brands. AI can speed up creative production and versioning, but brand control and transparency do not disappear. For premium motorcycle manufacturers in particular, AI creative should still be treated as governed brand material, not disposable content.

“Generative tools can make production faster. They do not remove the need to know who approved the claim, where the product information came from and whether the finished advert is accurate.”

As generative tools become embedded in creative platforms, advertisers need to understand not only what can be generated but also how that content is labelled, reviewed and approved. Transparency becomes part of the production workflow rather than an afterthought.

This is especially relevant for regulated or tightly controlled categories where brand, legal and finance approvals matter. AI-assisted production can speed up adaptation, but final responsibility for accuracy and suitability remains with the advertiser and its approval process.

Digitally Charged sees generative tools as useful production support rather than a substitute for brand control. The strongest workflow combines faster creation with clear human review, source assets and documented approval.
